A first for Futsal – Charter Standard status secured

Manchester Futsal Club has achieved the prestigious FA Charter Standard Adult Club award following official confirmation from Manchester FA last week. They also become the first affiliated Futsal club in the country to obtain Charter Standard status outright, highlighting the intention of the club to become leaders in Futsal club development in England.

The FA award comes as further recognition of the emphasis that has been put on club development since Manchester Futsal Club came into existence in April 2006. Commenting on the success, Simon Wright and Ilya Ovechkin the Club’s Co-Founders said ‘We always knew that putting a sustainable club structure in place was going to be critical in allowing the coaches and players to focus on developing their skills to achieve further success in competitive Futsal. The Charter Standard award gives us the perfect platform to build upon our ambition of becoming an inclusive Futsal club that promotes Futsal at every level throughout Manchester’.

The concept of an inclusive Futsal club is a relatively new to the FA but with girls and disabled players now accessing this technical small-sided game at the national level it is an approach that has been welcomed by Paul Bright Football Development Officer at Manchester FA. Paul said ‘The Charter Standard Status awards clubs that follow FA guidelines and best practice procedures in terms of volunteer recruitment, qualified coaches and providing football for all. Futsal is a relatively new game to England but has really taken off in Manchester with the formation of the Manchester FA Futsal League, Schools Leagues and female Futsal exhibitions alongside a host of Futsal coaching courses. Manchester Futsal Club have already shown their commitment to the game by being the first Futsal club in the country to achieve Charter Standard Status and hopefully they will be able to develop and introduce the game across Manchester and the North West.’
