Iran thrash Thailand in futsal friendly

TEHRAN: Seven-time Asian futsal champions Iran warmed up for the AFC Futsal Championship in Japan next month with a crushing 8-2 friendly win over ASEAN champions Thailand recently.

The game saw Iran triumph emphatically with Kazem Mohammadi hitting a hat-trick and Mohammadreza Heidarian and Mohamed Taheri grabbing a brace each. Vahid Shamsaee scored one.

Thailand played another game with the Iranian u-23s but lost narrowly 7-6.

Iran are in Group D with China, Lebanon and Malaysia while Thailand have been drawn with Iraq, Kuwait and last year’s finalists Uzbekistan in Group B for this edition of the AFC Futsal Championship which gets underway on May 13.
