INTERNATIONAL NEWS

NEWS FROM MARTY CALVERT IN HOLLAND
Last Friday night Marty came on the second half against a Belgium team and scored his sides only goal, the final score being 4-1. Marty was happy with his game and he has been told he will be in the starting 5 for this weeks midweek game. We’ll keep you up to date with his performances.

INDONESIA TO HOST ASIAN FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Our closest neighbours are hosting this year’s ASIAN FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in Jakarta. It will run from 22nd October to 31st October and for any Futsal supporters will be a cheap holiday and the chance to witness a quality Futsal tournament. For more details go to www.asian-football.com

BAHRAIN BID FOR 2004 FUTSAL WORLD CUP
Bahrain Football Association announced this week they were interested in hosting the 2004 Futsal World Cup. The last two cups have been in Spain and Guatemala. It would be great for Australia to host such an event but structurally and development wise we are not yet ready. With a number of Australian states in the last week announcing plans for a bid for the 2014 World Soccer Cup ( I think every political leader in Australia announced he was part of the bid) perhaps 2012 might be a good year for us to bid for the FUTSAL CUP.

MAURCIO LEADS BRAZIL MEN’S TEAM ON TOUR OF USA
Mauricio rang on Friday night to tell me he is Chief de Mission for the Brazil Men’s Futsal Tour of the USA and Mexico, leaving on Tuesday. I’m sure everyone in Queensland Futsal wishes him well ( and I hope he remembers us when he is rich and famous).

MARCOS NEW GENERAL MANAGER OF CRUZEIRO
For those of you who went to Brazil with me in May, Marcos, who was one of our hosts, is the new general manager of CRUZEIRO Football club. CRUZEIRO won the Brazil Cup in May. The players going to Brazil in November will be even luckier as I’m sure Marcos will organize meeting the players and even some training at CRUZEIRO as well.

NATIONAL NEWS

PLAYER AND PUBLIC LIABLITY INSURANCE
We will again be insuring with Sportscover Insurance for the year . Insurance prices have slightly risen, but Queensland Futsal will be absorbing these increases. Most clubs this season will be charging $65 a senior and $60 a junior for registration, with Queensland Futsal being passed on by the clubs $35 a senior and $30 a junior.

NEW BENEFITS FOR REGISTRATION
We will be continuing with the discount card on the back of the registration card this year, even though it does cost the association. Make sure you ask for your id card back at your centre so you can use the sponsors benefits on the back. As an added extra for registration, we will be holding a draw each STRIKERS home game for four junior players from across Queensland to attend that particular game in a private box. The four lucky winners each week will meet some of the players, have their photo taken with Thor the mascot and some players, have dinner at the game, receive a BUFFALO STRIKERS supporters pack, and if they are from the country will be provided with overnight accommodation.

STATE NEWS

RICHARD LITTLER LEAVES US
Richard Littler, who has worked in some form or fashion with Futsal since he was sixteen, left us on Friday. Richard has taken on a position as manager of a respite centre over at Richlands , he will however keep his role as coach of the men’s team and will still assist us in certain areas as a volunteer. I first coached Richard Futsal eighteen years ago, so he will be missed , but I wish him the best of luck in his new role.
We have had a few additions and changes to staff over the past few months, so next week I will do a story on who is doing what.
