Press release by Middlesbrough Futsal Club
PUT YOUR FUTSAL SKILLS TO GOOD USE TO KICK OFF CHARITY EVENTMiddlesbrough Futsal Club are calling for local futsal aficionados to take part in a tournament on 2nd June arranged to kick-start their partnership with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity.
Futsal is the 5-a-side indoor game that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA and helped to hone the talents of legends such as Juninho, Ronaldo and Pele. Now Middlesbrough Futsal Club is inviting locals to take part in a tournament for the chance to showboat their futsal skills and support their chosen charity.
Organised as part of Kick for CLIC Sargent, the national campaign that uses football events to raise money for children with cancer, the tournament is open to teams of five to twelve players of mixed ages and gender.
The tournament takes place on Saturday 2 June from 9am – 4pm with teams arranged into groups of four that will play each other for the champion position, just like the Futsal Euro 2007! The day will end with a Tees Valley Futsal League tie between Middlesbrough Futsal Club and Dream Team, which could turn out to be a league decider!
Damon Shaw, Chairman of Middlesbrough Futsal Club says, “After hearing about CLIC Sargent and the fantastic work they do to support children with cancer we decided to establish a partnership that will allow us to arrange a number of events that we hope will raise both awareness and funds for the charity.
“The Futsal tournament is the first event to kick start our fundraising and we’re calling for as many local teams as possible to come and take part. It’s a great chance to show off your futsal skills and raise money for a great cause at the same time. Places are limited though so if you fancy taking part sign up as soon as you can!”
Matt Waring, national football events co-ordinator for CLIC Sargent, says, “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Middlesbrough Futsal Club. Football is a key area for our charity and Kick for CLIC Sargent events help to raise lots of money each year to support our vital services. We’re really excited to be progressing into Futsal too as it continues to grow in the UK and we’ll be supporting Middlesbrough Futsal Club in their bid to join the new FA Futsal League later this year!”
