Players from reality show to form Malaysian ‘B’ side

PETALING JAYA: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will rope in the best 50 futsal players from next month's Jaguh-Futsal-RTM (JFRTM) national finals to form the Malaysian “B” team for the Korat SEA Games.

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Zahid Hamidi, who is also JFRTM organising chairman, said the response had been overwhelming with 14,000 players involved in the nationwide talent search competition programme (JFRTM) which was started in April.

“This is not a one-off futsal programme and we are committed to assist the FAM in our bid to search for promising talents for the national team,” said Zahid after conducting the draw for the JFRTM national finals at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

The 16-team national finals, which also include guest teams - Varsity All-Stars and Felda United - will be held at the Safira club in Seberang Jaya, Penang on June 2 and 3.

The top two teams from the four groups will qualify for the knockout stages. The quarter-finals and semi-finals are scheduled for June 23 and 24 while the final is on July 29 and would be televised live on RTM.

The teams in Group A are Penang, Varsity all-Stars, Kedah, Sarawak, Group B: Kelantan, Perlis, Sabah, Felda United, Group C: K. Lumpur, Malacca, Selangor, N. Sembilan, Group D: Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Perak.

The champions will win RM30,000 and will represent Malaysia to play against an Indonesian club in Jakarta. The runner-up will take home RM10,000.
