Friday, June 8th 2007

The New Amsterdam Multilateral School will come alive on June 15 as the National Secondary Schools Futsal Committee (NSSFC) will host a preliminary one-day competition from 9:00am.

Some eight schools will be vying for trophies donated by Trophy Stall. The schools participating include Rosignol Secondary, Bush Lot Secondary, Corentyne High and all other schools from the New Amsterdam area.

Other school teams interested in participating in the competition are asked to contact coordinator James Lewis on 613-0844.

Additionally, a similar competition is set to take place in Essequibo at the Anna Regina Multilateral School indoor facility the following day from 10am.

Meanwhile, some 24 secondary schoolboys are currently in training for selection to participate in the International High School Futsal tournament scheduled to be held in Paramaribo August 9-19.

Lewis told Stabroek Sport that top players from Berbice and Essequibo will be selected from the weekend-long competition to join the training squad and then a final selection of 12 players will be made for the international event.
