Vietnamnet BridgeFemale football player returns to field at 40 08/06/2007Truong Thi Ngoc Mai, former captain of the national women’s football squad of Vietnam, has decided to return to football at the age of 40. She is now the key player on the women’s futsal team of district 1, HCM City.
Ten years ago, captain Ngoc Mai contributed to the success of the Vietnamese women’s national football squad at the 19th SEA Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the team’s first bronze medal.
After that game, Ngoc Mai said goodbye to football. However, she has recently decided to join the futsal team of District 1 to prepare for the 24th SEA Games.
Following Ngoc Mai, some former members of the national female football team like Luu Ngoc Mai, Phan Thi Anh Dao, and Nguyen Thi Kim Phung have also joined the futsal team of District 1.
According to football experts, with her experience and talent, Ngoc Mai will surely be a member of Vietnam’s female futsal squad at the Indoor Games held in Macau this October and the 24th SEA Games in Thailand this December.
“I love playing football and I know I can play futsal well so I will try again without any other purpose. Moreover, I’m old now, and membership on the national team should be given to young players,” Ngoc Mai said.
