Futsal championship for local journalists to kick off Sunday

The Vietnam Journalism Association Futsal Championship 2007 will take place in Ho Chi Minh city on Sunday with 14 teams from the local media agencies participating.

Most of the players taking part in the indoor football tourna­ment, to last until next Saturday, are officials and journalists from press agencies around the country.

The 14 teams in­clude Vietnam Television (VTV), HCMC Television(HTV), the Vietnam Television Technology Corporation (VTC), Sai Gon Giai Phong, Thanh Nien, Tuoi Tre, Cong An HCMC, Nguoi Lao Dong, The Thao TP HCM, Thanh Dat Magazine, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon, Phap Luat TP HCM, The Thao Van Hoa and the HCMC People’s Radio Station.

They are divided into four groups and the amateur football players will compete in a round-robin tournament, which will take place at Lanh Binh Thang Indoor Stadium in District 11.

The Thanh Nien team will play against Thanh Dat Magazine on June 10, VTC on June 11 and Tuoi Tre on June 12.

The winners of each group and the runner-up teams will go to the quarterfinals of the main competition.

The quarterfinals and semi­finals are slated for June 14-15 and the final game will be on the 16th.
