First Int'l Futsal Tourney kicks off today

VietNamNet Bridge – Four futsal clubs will be competing at the first HCM City International Futsal Tournament in HCM City today.

Aside from Hanoi and HCM City teams - two of the strongest in the country - Thailand's Chonburi Blue Wave and Australia's NSW Thunder will also be playing.

The tournament, organised by the HCM City Football Federation, is designed to promote the domestic game, according to HFF chairman Tran Van Tao.

The Thai and Australian teams are both reigning Futsal champions in their home countries.

The winner will receive a trophy and US$5,000 in cash, while the runner-up will receive $3,000. Other prizes will also be awarded to the best player and best goalkeeper.

The tournament is being held at the Phu Tho Stadium, 1 Lu Gia Street, District 11.

Futsal five-a-side football is played indoors on a hard pitch and is characterised by short rapid play.
