Futsal tourney to resume in August new contract calls for insurance for patrons

By Duane Fowler

Saturday, June 23rd 2007

The National Sport commission says safety and security of the paying public is paramount and this is reflected in the new contract for rental of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and any other NSC facility. The contract which was prepared by attorney K. Juman Yassin and recently adopted by the Commission was revealed to the media yesterday and puts the full responsibility for any losses by a patron on the organizer/s renting the facility.

The document calls for adequate security to be provided and stipulates that persons and, or groups renting facilities such as the C.A.S.H take out insurance to cover any injuries or losses suffered by the paying public. The contract has its genesis in the disorderly conduct which included the smoking of illicit substances and even violence during the hosting of the English/Kashif and Shanghai Futsal tournament. And while it has no penalties for errant users of these facilities besides tournament/event stoppage, Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony said the NSC can deny future rental to promoters who have been in violation of its codes and rules. All this sets the stage for the resumption of the futsal competition as Organizer Aubrey 'Shanghai' Major has indicated his group's willingness to abide by the new stipulations. That tournament will now continue between August 14 and Sept.1 as the contract is set to be signed sometime early next week.
