Times of MaltaUEFA Futsal CupChampions Jeepers to play in Sweden mini-tournamentMaltese futsal champions Jeepers will be taking part in the 2007/08 UEFA Futsal Cup. Following this week's draw in Nyon, Jeepers were paired with Swedish champions Skovde AIK and MNK Kaskada Gracanica, of Bosnia, in Group E.
For the first time this season, the UEFA Futsal Cup will feature clubs from Estonia, Ireland and Montenegro as a record 44 clubs from 43 nations have entered the competition.
The Group E mini-tournament will be played in Sweden between August 11 and 19. Twenty-two teams will be involved in the Preliminary Round. The six group winners will join 18 others in the next round.
Holders Dinamo Moscow, fellow Russians Viz-Sinara Ekaterinburg and ElPozo Murcia, of Spain, are seeded into the Elite Round draw on September 18. The final four will be played next April.
Jeepers won the 2006/07 Malta FA futsal title after beating Hibernians, 8-3, and European Pilot Academy, 6-3, in the play-offs. A 1-1 draw in the remaining match against Scandals Bar was enough to secure Jeepers their first league title after the club was formed in 2002.
Jeepers reached the Maltese Futsal Cup semi-finals last season and had striker Zeljko Anicic voted MFA Best Futsal Player. He was also a finalist in the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards.
Jeepers have just held their annual general meeting during which Richard Busuttil was elected new president. The pre-season training has already started as Jeepers look to leave a good impression in the UEFA Futsal Cup.
