TWENTY-FOUR youth teams from Brunei-Muara mosques made their way to the futsal courts for the five-aside Futsal Tournament yesterday.
Organised by the district's mosque officials, the event at the UBD Sports Complex in Rimba, Gadong was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st birthday celebrations.
It was also a means to foster closer ties between the youths of the district and promote a healthier lifestyle.
Guest of honour Hj Kahar Hj Hussin, Acting Deputy Director of the Department of Mosque Affairs, presented the awards to the winners.
The top four teams each received trophies, certificates and prize money.
Perpindahan Rakyat Jati Kg Mentiri Mosque emerged victorious over Batu Marang Mosque in the finals with a 2-0 win.
Mohd Ali Azmi Hj Mohammad from Mentiri became the team hero when he breached through the opponent's defence with two goals during the last few minutes of the second half.
First runner-up coach Hamidun Mohd Daud noted that his team did relatively well in the first half but were unable to convert their enthusiasm into scores.
"The team was slow to move up the court when we were in possession of the ball and our missed shots did not help,"said Hamidun.
Meanwhile, Kg Saba Religious Multipurpose Hall defeated Sg Hanching Mosque by 1-0, securing their position in the third place.
