Penrith StarHelp foot the bill for these girlsJuly 17, 2007By
Kylie StevensMcCarthy Catholic College schoolmates Stephanie Haaring, Jessica McCarthy and Emma Noro are on a mission with two goals in mind.
The trio hope to perform well for the NSW Futsal under-15 girls side when they travel to Spain for a two-week tour in November.
But before the girls can pack their bags, they must come up with $5500 each to make the trip.
The 15-year-olds are busy organising several fundraisers to help fund their trip, including a muffin bake sale at Jamison Park on July 28.
In Spain, the girls will play three exhibition matches and undergo intensive training with some of the best Futsal players and coaches in the world.
They play for Penrith/Nepean in the local competition and have played Futsal for several years.
Stephanie is no stranger to the under-15s state team as she was a member of the squad which finished third at the national titles in Queensland last year.
``This will be my first time overseas and to be going with my friends makes it more special,'' Stephanie said.
``We're very excited about it, as it's a chance to learn something new.''
Stephanie's mother Jess has appealed for local businesses to help out the girls with donations.
The girls would like to thank the 15 local buisnesses who have already come on board with sponsorship, Inclufing Cougar Concrete, Blooms Chemist, Pots Avenue, Bags Plus, JB Hi-Fi, Rebel, Star Shots, Just Cuts, Cooki Man, Dave's Jewellers St Marys, Reject Shop Penrith, Wallacia Newsagency and Bunnings.
If you can help out, contact Jess Haaring on 47361299.
Meanwhile, Penrith Sports Stadium will host the four day Soccer NSW Futsal State Championships from next Monday (July 24), followed by the Futsal State Schools Champs for athletes with a disability next Friday.
