Futsal tourney to resume next month

The English/Santos/Kashif and Shanghai national Futsal competition is set to resume mid next month.

The organizers told the media last week at a press conference held at the Waterchris Hotel, that the tournament, which was halted by the National Sports Commission following an incident at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, will resume on August 14.

According to Kashif Muhammad of the Kashif and Shanghai organization,

the organizers will adopt a "zero tolerance" policy on all forms of undesirable behaviour.

Muhammad added that excessive alcohol consumption, violence and the use of prohibited drugs would not be tolerated during the staging of the tournament.

He also revealed that a private security firm had been hired to ensure the protection of the venue and the fans and that the organizers would insist that the security firm carried out its duties in an effective manner. It is also likely that in keeping with the stipulations of the new contract signed by the organizers, personnel from the Guyana Police Force will be present at all the games.

The tournament was halted by the NSC after the penultimate preliminary round of matches on May 26 following a stabbing incident which involved a non playing player and a fan.
