RIDHUAN BACKS BATTLING FELDA

26th July 2007 – Former national coach Ridhuan Abdullah is backing his Felda chargers that they will be able to outshine the competition in the inaugural National Futsal Championship Felda-FAM 2007 from 10 to 12 August 2007.

Ridhuan, who is also the head coach of the FAM Cup side Felda United, is in charge of both the men and women’s team for the meet and where they have been in intensive training since last month.

“The players are all from the Felda internal competition which we had earlier on where from there, we identified a total of 30 players for the men’s team and a further 30 players for the women’s team,” said Ridhuan, who had previous stints with former Malaysia Cup champion MPPJ as well as club side MPSJ.

“The short listed 24 players for each division have been in training since last week and where they will be further trimmed down after we return to Kuala Lumpur at the end of the month.

“The players from the ‘Rancangan Felda’ have a lot of potential and even though the state teams might seem to be the favourites in this meet, I believe that Felda can spring a surprise or two.”

The two Felda men’s team will be competing in Group E against Perlis, Pahang and Melaka while in Group F they will be up against Proton, PDRM and RTM.

On the other hand, the two Felda women’s team will be in Group A against Pahang, Kedah and Utusan while in Group B are Johor, RTM, ATM and Sabah.

“With days left to go the big kick-off, there is an air of excitement about the inaugural Felda Futsal,” added Mohamad Ibrahim who is the tournament director for Felda Futsal 2007 and who is also the Felda Director of Communications and Coordination.

“And we hope that with the nation celebrating the 50th anniversary of Merdeka next month, there will not only be a spirit of competitiveness and Fair Play during matches but also evoke a spirit of nationalism.”

The Felda Futsal 2007 will be officially opened by Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, the deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia who is also the Minister for Felda on 11th August, 2007 at the official venue of the Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam.
