Maksak stay on course

MAKSAK lived up to their tag of being the favourites for the overall title in the inaugural National Futsal Championshipa Felda-FAM 2007 when they won all their matches to make today’s quarter-finals.

The Maksak men's team completed their group C matches with a 5-1 beating of Sabah, a 5-0 thrashing of Utusan and a 6-2 victory over Perak.

The Maksak women's team were also no pushovers in Group C when they overcame Kuala Lumpur 4-1, Penang 3-0 and trounced Malacca 5-0.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced a massive boost for futsal when opening the tournament at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam yesterday.

"As part of our commitment to the game, we will be building 14 Sport Centres in Felda communities with full Fifa specifications Futsal courts," said Najib, who also announced that a budget of RM32.5 million has been set aside.

"This programme will give full benefit to the Felda residents to play futsal."
