The Central Jersey Lazerz, a team consisting of nine girls from around the state of New Jersey, placed second nationally in the Under-12 Division at the USFF National Championships July 12-15 in Anaheim, Calif. Futsal is a five-player-per- team version of soccer.
The Lazerz include five girls from Burlington County: Jessica Brownell of Hainesport, Abbey Romano of Lumberton, Ashley Sha-ckelford of Burlington, Julie Spracklin of Eastampton and Delaney West of Lumberton.
Lazerz, the New Jersey state champions representing the Northeast/MidAtlantic States, advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0-1 record in group play, defeating teams from the Northwest (SJ United) and South-Central (DCFA Flamengo) and tying another Northwest Region team (Tri-Valley) on the road to the semifinal.
In the semifinals, the Lazerz beat a tough Northwest Team: TVSA Hawks Red. In the finals, the Lazerz fell short to perennial favorites MACSA Gold.
