White Bear and Skövde win

Friday 17 August 2007

London White Bear FC revived their hopes of progress in the UEFA Futsal Cup with an 8-3 defeat of Granvalira FC Encamp while Skövde AIK made a fine start on home territory.

Revival
The English representatives lost their opening Preliminary round Group F game 5-3 to Slovenian hosts KMN Puntar so needed victory against the Andorran champions to have any chance of going through in first place. Thanks to their result tonight, Olexandr Saliy's White Bear side can still make the Main round, but only if Puntar lose to Encamp tomorrow. For Encamp to go through, they will look for a seven-goal wining margin.

Skövde surge
Skövde are staging the final mini-tournament to begin, Group E, and proved their progress form this stage on their debut last year was no fluke as the Swedish side beat Malta's Jeepers FC 8-2. Pavel Adamov actually put Jeepers ahead, but Oskar Nielsen, Johan Johansson and Johnny David made it 3-1 on eight minutes before Zlijko Anicic pulled one back. It was still 3-2 at the break, but Tobias Jansson struck in the 25th minute and Charbel Abraham added two goals before Robert Eckerman and Gustav Karlsson extended the lead late on. Jeepers must now produce a big win against MNK Kaskada Graèanica tomorrow to prevent the group going to a Sunday showdown between the side from Bosnia-Herzegovina and the hosts.

French pool
Along with the games in the two three-team pools, the four-sided Group B continues tomorrow. Albania's KS Ali Demi, who had to concede their opener 3-0 to French hosts Issy Futsal yesterday after their arrival was delayed due to visa problems, meet AGBU Ararat Nicosia FC and depending on the result there victory in the later game could mean progress for either the hosts or Montenegro's KMF Municipium Casino Pljevlja, who beat the Cypriot team 5-3 in their first match.
