Basic season for Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian well known club has the strong intention to take back its dominant role in the national league, after leaving the past title to Energy Lvov (click HERE to know more).

The Oleg Solodovnik's team will celebrate its 10th year of life with the aim to start a new impressive series as the one which began in the 2001/2002 season, that "produced" four title in 5 leagues.
The five new arrivals signed until now will have to do their best in order to make it real: we're talking about Kulyk (Taim), Tkachenko (Energy), Kameko (DSS), Shuvalov (free), Maksimenko (goalkeeper, Metropoliten Kiev). During the past days the brazilian Gera as well was training with the ukrainian club, which finally decided not to sign him.

On the "departures sector" we can't ignore the main name: russian (and deserved) experience for Sergey Sytin, as the ukrainian national team star has just joined his compatriots Koridze and Kudlay (just arrived from Dinamo Moscow) at Spartak Shelkovo.
Also Shakhtar will miss its "historical" goalkeeper Korneev, who moved to Uragan, Deynega (free), Kondratyuk (Energy) and Minaev (Kharkov).

Shakhtar Donetsk will start the new league on September 1st, in the meanwhile the ukrainian side faced Clearex Chorzow, Kairat Almaty twice and Iberia 2003 in four international friendly matches, with one more game vs the georgian club to be played on August 24th.
