Dinamo see off Russian rivals

Sunday 26 August 2007

UEFA Futsal Cup holders MFK Dinamo Moskva have begun the new Russian season in ominous form - including handing two defeats to fellow European entrants MFK VIZ-Sinara Ekaterinburg.

Winning start
Dinamo, who pipped Ekaterinburg to the Russian title last season as well as clinching the European crown, made a fine start last week as they beat newly-promoted Dinamo Timal Ufa 12-3 and 13-1. And this weekend Dinamo welcomed the 2006/07 runners-up and in the first match managed a 6-0 win including two goals apiece from Tatu and Pelé. It was closer a day later, but Dinamo prevailed 5-4 despite twice seeing leads cancelled out. The champions are joined four wins out of four by TTG-Java Yugorsk, while the famous name of MFK Dina Moskva are two points behind. Both Dinamo and VIZ-Sinara enter the UEFA Futsal Cup in October's Elite round.

Spartak withdraw
However, there is unhappy news in the Russian Superleague with the withdrawal of MFK Spartak Moskva following a legal dispute over player contracts, though they hope to be included in the second division. In 2000/01 Spartak ended Dina's nine-year run as champions and the following season had the honour of being Russia's first representatives in the new UEFA Futsal Cup.
