Six Sigma take futsal title in style

TWO second half goals in quick succession saw Six Sigma earn a 2-0 win over Balanced Scoreboard to take the Futsal Championship organised by the government sector's new administrative officers yesterday.

The half-day event was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas, and featured three teams playing two seven-minute half games in a round robin format.

KPI rounded off the list of three teams.

Balanced Scorecard had the better of the opening chances and taking advantage of an unsettled Six Sigma pulled off two shots on goal in the first couple of minutes to set the tempo.

Passing with fluidity and spreading the ball around well, Balanced Scorecard played with a "shoot on sight" philosophy and had more opportunities. However they failed to capitalise on any of them, which was due in part to Six Sigma's tight defence.

Knowing when to push forward and pressure the ball carrier or fall back and hold the player, Six Sigma's defenders also helped to spark several counter-attacks.

Substitute Rizal Zainal Abidin scored Six Sigma's opener mid-way through the second half, when his shot found the back of the net after a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Rizal made full use of a pass from the left of the area from Ak Mohd Fadly Harfinie Pg Hj Mohd Kassim to make it 1-0.

The top-scorer with three goals, Ak Mohd Fadly turned from provider to scorer just a minute later when he netted a similar goal as the first the only difference being Roslan Taja'ah's feed from the right of the area.

"Our teamwork won us the final and playing confident football was another factor," said Roslan.

Present at the event was the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Hamid Pg Hj Md Yassin, who presented the prizes to the three teams.
