Interviú Fadesa - formerly known as Boomerang - gained revenge on UEFA Futsal Cup contenders ElPozo Murcia for taking away their Spanish title by securing a 6-4 win in the Spanish Super Cup.
Decidated to SaorínTwo-time European champions Interviú are in mourning for club president Manuel Saorín Piñera, who died last week, and dedicated the victory in Benicarlo to his memory. The Spanish Cup holders beat El Tuco Muebles FS 6-5 in the semi-finals while Murcia overcame hosts Benicarló OU 7-5 to set up another meeting of the nation’s two dominant clubs.
Joan hat-trickMurcia had the better of the championship play-off last season, having been beaten by Interviú in both the UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals – which they hosted – and the Spanish Cup final. Twice they led on Sunday through Cico but Marquinho and Joan equalised on five and 15 minutes. Edgar Bertoni gave Interviú the lead early in the second half and Joan scored again in the 28th minute. Super Cup holders Murcia pulled one back through Álvaro but Joan completed his hat-trick with a penalty and Daniel then put the result beyond doubt and secure his club's eighth success in this competition.
New seasonJoan said: "We owed the president this title and I'm sure he helped us win. It was a tough week for us and we wanted to win the trophy to dedicate it to Manuel; luckily we have been able to do that. This team has no sell-by date and this season we're out to win everything and clinch as many titles as we can." However, for the first time since 2001/02 they will be absent from the UEFA Futsal Cup, having lost their grip on the trophy due to a late MFK Dinamo Moskva winner in the final and then saw their league title taken by Murcia, who will be in the Elite round draw on 18 September. The Spanish league begins next weekend.
