Catholic Youth Futsal League
WE ARE CELEBRATING YEAR #5!

The Catholic Youth Futsal League of Fall River is accepting registrations for the upcoming 2007-08 futsal season. This will be our 5th year of games and it is slated to be our biggest season to date, in terms of number of players and teams participating. "When we started in the Fall of 2002, we began games with 21 registered players" says John Kinnane, as the original parent coordinator of the fledgling league. "We are fully expecting to serve more than 500 student / athletes this year and we continue to see not only additional interest from the participating schools, but each year a new school signs on to enjoy some of the fast paced fun and excitement that Futsal has to offer its players and fans", adds Kinnane.

With out a doubt, the Catholic Youth Futsal League has experienced fantastic growth since its inception. Beyond the fact that the league provides for a fun, healthy and exciting activity, or that its players benefit from rapid foot skills development that are the hallmark of this small sided indoor soccer game without walls, this league provides an opportunity for people, young and old alike, to come together from the local Fall River Catholic Diocesan Schools and Parishes enabling growth as a faith-filled community of people. "It's not the perfect league, by any measure", says Coach Bill Sampaio, " and we face our challenges, but what you see here is that each and every year new friendships are made, established bonds are strengthened and grown ups and children alike are enjoying being part of an opportunity that they will remember all through their lives". "It's a wonderful thing to see and be a part of".

The league is scheduled to begin games at the Lafrance Gymnasium at Bishop Connolly High School on Elsbree Street in Fall River on Saturday November 10, 2007 and will run through to March 3, 2008 and then end with an annual awards banquet for all participants. All games are played on Saturdays and are scheduled to take no longer than an hour. Unlike the children in the u12 and u14 age categories who participate in full competitions throughout the season, children in the age categories of u6, u8 and u10 begin the season with instruction & coaching each week by Coach Bill Sampaio. Coach Sampaio was appointed to the office of the National Director of Coaching for the United States Futsal Federation in 2003 and has held that title since, traveling throughout the United States on behalf of the USFF giving coaching instructions, seminars, demonstrations and courses to thousands of participants.

Player, coach and team registrations forms are available through the individual school coordinators listed to include at Jeff Silva & Lisa Ouellette at St. Michael School, John Larue at St. Stanislaus School, Tom and Kristin Roussel and Anthony Riccitelli at Ss. Peter & Paul School, Paul & Carol Oliveira at Notre Dame School, Dean and Melissa Carlson at Holy Trinity School, and Shawn & Lisa Murphy at Holy Name School
