First Brunei Futsal Open Meet

Bandar Seri Begawan - Event Management Anati (EMA) in cooperation with Youth and Sports Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (BAFA) will be organising the 1st Brunei Futsal Tournament Open 2007 from Nov 30 to Dec 23.

The first ever-national futsal tournament will be held at the Multipurpose Hall of Hassanal Bolkiah Sport Complex.

With a cash prize of $2,000 for the champion, $1,000 for the first runner-up, $800 for second runner-up, $500 for third runner-up, $300 for fourth runner-up and $200 for fifth runner-up, more than 50 local futsal teams are expected to participate in the tournament.

Among the objectives of the tournament are to foster friendship among participating teams as well as to promote futsal and healthy lifestyle through exercise.

It also served to uphold the spirit of fair play and competitiveness.

The organising committee of the tournament held their first meeting to ensure the success of the tournament at the conference room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.

Present at the meet were Pg Hj Matussin Pg Hj Matasan, the chairman of the organising committee who is also the Secretary-General of BAFA and Lt Colonel Pg Mohamad Noor, the tournament director of the meet and representatives from the Youth and Sports Department.

Pg Hj Matussin in his welcoming remarks said it was very timely for EMA to organise the first Brunei Futsal Tournament Open 2007 after BAFA was invited to take part in the qualifying round of the World Cup Futsal.
