MACAU TEST FOR WOMEN FUTSAL

9th Oct 2007 - The Asian Indoor Games in Macau in two weeks will be the perfect test for the Malaysian Women Futsal team's level of preparation for the SEA Games in December.

Head coach Chiew Chun Yong said that although the team are in a difficult Group A against Iran, Thailand and Japan, still he will be anxious to gauge the progress of the team since their formation in May this year.

In Group B are Vietnam, Uzbekistan and the Philippines to contest for the Macau championship slated for 24th Oct - 4th Nov, 2007.

"We will try to do well against the likes of Iran, Thailand and Japan where I believe that the players should realised that we need to be competitive here so as to make improvements for the SEA Games," added Chun Yong.

"We are working on a few tactics for this tournament and I hope that it will prove effective. I don't want anyone to say that just because we are a new team, we should not set ourselves any target. We have to have an aim in taking part in tournaments."

The team which is made of players from the recent Felda championship as well as those from the Harian Metro meet will have a mountain to climb not only in Macau but also at the SEA Games.

They lost all their matches in the 10 friendly games they played against the U18 men's team while against the women's team; they won one match and lost the other.

The 16-member squad between the ages of 14-years-old and 25-years-old, have gone through six phases of national training thus far.

"We plan to go Thailand sometime next week but as of now, it is still not confirmed yet," added Chun Yong.

"If we can get the four matches in Thailand, it will be good for the team and I'm really hoping that it will work out."
