SOMKID CHUENTA MAKES DREAM DEBUT

(30 Oct 2007, Aktobe, Kazakhstan) – Just 24 hours after completing his move to Aktobe BTA, Somkid Chuenta, the first professional Futsal player from Thailand and Southeast Asia to play in Europe was in action for his club against top side Kairat in the Kazakhstan Futsal League.

And if anything is to be taken from his performance in the exciting 2-2 draw, its that the ‘keeper will soon surely become a fan favourite in this city of Aktobe.

Describing his debut, coach Renat said: “Somkid did very well today. He showed just why we have signed him. Even though many people questioned the decision earlier to sign him, I believe he has made all of them sit up and take notice. They are quite surprised just how good he is.

“His distribution was excellent and his assured handling really gave the team much confidence. It was a hard game and we have another match tomorrow but for today perhaps we should have won with the many chances we had but Somkid did very well and I am satisfied. Now he just needs to stay focused and stay consistent.”

Aktobe BTA were definitely the better of the two teams in this tie but will have another chance against the same opponents later on Wednesday night in the second match.

Cacau, the star Brazilian of Kairat and a popular star in Futsal in Kazakhstan also had the plaudits for Somkid’s performance although indicating that he was surprised just how good he was.

“The keeper was very good. I am surprised because before the match we didn’t know anything about him. I am sure he will be a star for Aktobe BTA no doubt. He is very hard to beat and if he can continue his good performance, I am sure that many teams in Europe will come to look for him”, said Cacau.

Nicknamed ‘Kid’ by club officials and the fans, Somkid was given a huge round of applause at the end of the match by the 1,000 crowd and mobbed for autographs afterwards. Surely a star is born in Kazakhstan.
