Somkid leads Aktobe to victory over Kairat

A capacity crowd in the Kohnis Stadium today was treated to a fabulous display of top class Futsal in a nerve-wrecking clash that eventually saw Aktobe BTA edge out Kairat by 3-2 with Thai ‘keeper Somkid Chuenta an undeniable star.

Aktobe scored the winning goal with literally the last kick of the match after having led 2-0 and having faced a strong fight back by a Kairat side led by Brazilians Cacau and Pica Pau.

Still the day must be remembered for the heroics of Somkid who has become an instant favourite with Aktobe BTA fans.

Time and again the maverick shot-stopper from Thailand pulled off remarkable saves to deny the Brazilian-influenced Kairat side.

And as the match ended with boisterous celebrations, Somkid was the first to be mobbed by the fans and his very own teammates as they hugged and rejoiced.

Skipper Slipchka, a Russian international said: “Somkid was unbelievable today. He inspired us throughout and with him in the side we are playing with more belief and confidence. I think he is the best goalkeeper in all of Kazakhstan.”

Agreeing, goal-scorer Maltsev added that Somkid was going to be a big star and showed his value and importance to the team as he stopped everything that came his way.

The victory sets for an interesting season as it now looks like Aktobe have laid down the gauntlet and made their intentions clear that after four years as bridesmaids to the league and cup crown, this year will be a different proposition with ‘The Kid” in the team.
