Coach sure of a medal

By Christopher Raj

NATIONAL futsal manager Hamidin Mohd Amin is quite confident that Malaysia will return with a medal from the Korat Sea Games.

Hamidin said that the team’s recent participation in the Macau Indoor Games in the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in the former Portuguese colony, showed the team have a bright future.

Malaysia beat Macau 5-2 in the first game, outplayed Afghanistan 6-1 in the second, but then lost 6-1 to Uzbekistan before losing 8-1 to Thailand in the quarter-finals.

“It was a good experience playing against the Thais who are favourites to win the gold in Korat, butwe can give them a fight. I am positive the players will do well,” said Hamidin.

Malaysia are in Group A with Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand while Group B has Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines.

The national Futsal team will leave for Perth, Australia on Nov 16 for a one week training-cum-playing tour. They will play matches against the Australian Futsal Team and two top clubs that compete in the Australian Futsal League.

“The exposure will surely help boost the players’ confidence and mental toughness to be ready for Korat,” added Hamidin, who is also the FA of Selangor general secretary and and Exco member of the FA of Malaysia.
