Augustine Mukoka Thursday November 08, 2007ZAMBIA has entered the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Futsal qualifying competition.
Briefing the press in Lusaka yesterday, FAZ acting general secretary Fidelis Banda said a 20-man team had been selected in the Futsal national team.
"The team started day release training at Circolo Italiano Club grounds on Tuesday," he said.
Banda said the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup finals will be held in Brazil.
Futsal is an indoor version of soccer. Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol sala/de salón, which can be translated as 'indoor football'.
However, FIFA has since committed to develop its structure and now be played outdoor in a certified location.
Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. In addition each team may have a number of substitutes.
Currently, the Futsal league is underway in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, FAZ president Teddy Mulonga is in Cairo, Egypt attending the CAF inter-clubs championship competitions league and the Confederations Cup to which he is committee member.
Banda announced that Under-17 midfielder Chisamba Lungu and Dennis Makinka were also in the Futsal national team from the active league.
