1st Brunei Futsal Open

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam hopes to take part in the qualifying round of FIFA Futsal World Cup by scouting talented local players in the upcoming l It Brunei Futsal Open Tournament which will start from Nov 30 to Dec 16.

This was revealed by Pengiran Haji Metusin bin Pg Hj Metassan, the Secretary-General of BAFA, in his capacity as the chairperson of the organising committee for the 1 St Brunei Futsal Open Tournament, in the meeting for the tournament's group draws, yesterday.

"Brunei Darussalam through BAFA is a member of FIFA as well as AFC and AFF. These three enormous football organisations organise futsal tournaments from time to time. And BAFA hopes to take part in the tournament.

"In this matter, BAFA hopes to produce quality futsal players to represent Brunei Darussalam and next year, FIFA will be organising FIFA Futsal World Cup. BAFA is hoping to take part in the qualifying round and from the Brunei Futsal Open tournament; we hope to scout some potential players for the national futsal team."

On the 1st Brunei Futsal Open Tournament, "in such an activity as huge as this, the association needs to look for strategic partners to collaborate in organising so that the activities will be carry forward for the long term.

"I hope that teams will take the tournament seriously as the registration fee is not cheap.

Sufficient training in conditioning the players is needed to prepare for the matches."

Some 47 teams will be trying to cash in the championship prize money of $2,000 in the 1st Brunei Futsal Open Tournament.

After the draw was make, Group A - Satria, 69 FC, Bimas FC, BC 5 and QAF B, Group B QAF A, BSRC C, Eclipse, Fusion and Glaticos Utd, Group C- Kroniz Bee, Panat FC, Our Team, Madang F.C andAM Gunners, Group D- Adinin Group, Energy, BSRC B, UBD I and Elva Nova, Group E- Urban Kickers, MBS Unt, Tempelilih, Defiant FC and Family, Group F- Coms 1, Jerudong B, Kota Junior, Warriors and Makati, Group G- Sabina Jr, LLRC, JDBM, Phosphor and Jerudong A, Group H- Beribi Bahagia, Syah Kampong, BJOL, Fun FC, Kapa I1 and PSB FC, Group I- HBM, Tufo, BSRC A BIRD, Cousin FC and UBD 2.

Group A will be playing on Dec 7; Group B will be playing on Dec 5; Group C matches will fall on Dec 8;: Group D will be playing on Dec 9 (night); Group E will be on Dec 9 (morning);, Group F will also be playing on Dec 9 (evening).

Group G's matches will fall Dec 4 while Group H will be playing on Dec 3 and Group I will be playing on Dec 10.

The top three teams from each group will qualify in the knockout stage.

Lt Colonel Pg Mohamad Noor, the tournament director, briefed the representatives of participating teams on the rules and system of the tournament.
