English Futsal: Middlesbrough Futsal Club press release

Middlesbrough Futsal Club
2007/2008 gets under way

After a long summer off for Middlesbrough Futsal Club, the new season begins this weekend [Saturday 1st December] with the Tees Valley Futsal League. Boro finished 12th in the FA National Finals in July and will be hoping to win the Tees Valley Futsal league for the 3rd time, which will qualify Boro for the FA Futsal Cup finals next summer.

2007/2008 promises to be an important season in Futsal, and one that will shape the future of the game in England. The FA are working on setting up a National League, which will run from February through September and will feature three regional conferences (North, Midlands and South). The top two of each conference will play off for the national championship and a UEFA Cup place.

Boro are looking stronger than ever with a larger, more experienced squad than ever before and will surely be hoping to make an impact in all competitions this season. Their tour to Portugal in September will stand them in good stead after meeting futsal giants such as Benfica, FC Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon.

Boro’s first match of 2007/2008 is against a team created by a group of foreign students at the University of Teesside - Lost Dogs - the name shouldn’t be taken literally as some of the players have played futsal in their home nations and will surely be a tricky opening game for Boro. This game kicks off at 11am in the Olympia Sports Hall at the University of Teesside. Entry is free and it’s a great indoor venue to watch a game of football.

On Sunday, Damon Shaw is taking a team to Chester to play two matches against Manchester and Tranmere Victoria in a three way set of fixtures. These games will be a good test of how far Boro have come since last season with Tranmere Victoria finishing 3rd last season and Manchester an upcoming team.
