By S. SIVABALAN

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur World 5's futsal tournament, to be held at the Stadium Negara here from Jan 29 to Feb 3 next year, will feature some of the top teams in the world.

It will offer total prize money of US$150,000 and will see 10 teams competing. Initially, the tournament was supposed to have been held at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

The teams taking part are from Argentina, Brazil, Holland, England, Iran, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and hosts Malaysia.

Speaking at the launch of the tournament here Monday, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said: "The arrival of this tournament is indeed a huge boost for the game, which is currently enjoying phenomenal growth in the country.

"Futsal has become increasingly popular around the world and Malaysia has been enjoying phenomenal growth, evident by the increasing number of futsal centres in KL and urban areas throughout the country," he said.

This is the second time the KL World 5's is being organised. Argentina won the last tournament at the Putra Stadium four years ago when they stunned Brazil 3-2 in the final.
