THE championship match for the 2007 Guam Football Association Women’s Futsal League is set to take place this Sunday at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon. The heavily favored Orange Crushers occupy one of slots in the final match and will take on an unlikely, underrated opponent in Guam Shipyard.
Shipyard’s Ginalynn Naburn and Victoria Shimizu; and the Orange Crusher’s Alex McGourty and Kristin Thompson, make up the top four goal scorers in the league. Those four players alone help build excitement for a championship match that has all the potential of being a tightly contested and high scoring game to watch.
The Orange Crushers made their way into the finals by defeating a surprisingly hard nosed Pacificare Tigers squad in double-overtime, 2-1. On the other hand, Guam Shipyard catapulted themselves into the title match with their victory over top ranked powerhouse Hyundai, 5-4.
During the regular season the Orange Crushers performed up to their personal expectations while Guam Shipyard fought hard to harbor the talent that ultimately pulled them out of their mid-ranked obscurity. More recently, the two squads have performed to the best of their abilities and will go toe-to-toe this weekend for Futsal supremacy.
A consolation match for third place will take place before the championship match at 2:00 p.m. Following the consolation match, the title game is scheduled to begin promptly at 3:30 p.m.
