Brunei DirectCousin FC Off To A Winning Start By
James KonBandar Seri Begawan - Cousin FC got off to a winning start in the curtain raiser of the 1st Brunei Futsal Tournament Terbuka 2007 after beating BIBD 1-0 at the Multipurpose Hall of Hassanal Bolkiah Sport Complex yesterday.
The winning goal was scored by No 4 Farihan in the dying minutes of the exciting game when he blasted a powerful drive that rocked the BIBD goalpost.
Prior to the game, Dato Paduka Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports officiated the opening ceremony.
Lt Colonel Pg Mohamad Noor, the tournament director in his welcoming address thanked the sponsors for their support and he hoped the teams will be competing in the spirit of fairplay and professionalism.
The meet from Nov 30 to Dec 16 has attracted a total of 47 teams who will vie for the champion prize money of $2,000.
Split into nine groups, the top three teams of each group will qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. The first group matches of the tournament will be played on Monday, Dec 3 whereby Beribi Bahagia, Syah Kampong, Bjol FC, Fun FC and PSB FC of Group H will see action.
Also present at the ceremony yesterday were Pengiran Haji Metusin bin Pg Hj Metassan, the Secretary-General of BAFA and Pg Hj Wahab bin Pg Hj Sulaiman, Tournament Co-Chairman.
The 1st Brunei Futsal Tournament Terbuka 2007 is organised by Event Management Anati with the support from the Youth and Sports Department and BAFA.
