Antena 1 to broadcast the matches of the National team in 2008 and 2009

The Antena 1 television station obtained the rights to broadcast the official matches of the national seniors’ team, of the national futsal team and of the national women’s team during the next two years, with an offer of EUR 2.6 M, Ionut Lupescu, the General Manager of the Romanian Football Federation announced. Antena 1 exceeded TVR - an offer of EUR 2.4 M, Kanal D/Telesport - EUR 2.25 M and PRO TV - EUR 1.5 M.

In a press conference that took place at the House of Football, Lupescu reminded that the main principle of selecting the winner was the fact that they did not want a TV station that would make high rating due to the national teams, but a television that already has a high rating and the capacity to promote our representatives. For the “B package”, that includes the recorded matches of the national seniors’ team, and the live broadcasting of the official and friendly matches of the national juniors’ team, as well as those of the U-18 juniors’ team, the highest offer came from TVR - EUR 600,000, followed by Antena 1 - EUR 500,000, PRO TV - EUR 230,000, Kanal D / Telesport - EUR 100,000.

The federation will negotiate the clauses of the highest offers and, if no agreement is reached, they will discuss the other offers, except for the one made by Kanal D and Telesport, considered “a modest offer.”
