UEFA Executive Committee decisions from Lucerne meeting

The UEFA Executive Committee today completed its meeting in Lucerne under the chairmanship of UEFA President, Michel Platini, ahead of tomorrow’s draw for the UEFA EURO 2008™ final tournament.

Following on from yesterday’s announcement of the changes to UEFA club competitions for 2009-2012, the UEFA Executive Committee today agreed the following:

• To appoint Hungary as host association for the UEFA Futsal Championship 2009

• To appoint Russia (St Petersburg) as host association for a test UEFA Under-21 Futsal tournament in 2008

• To designate Dinamo Moscow as host for the UEFA Futsal Cup Finals 2008

• To designate Denmark as host association for the UEFA Congress on 24/25 March 2009

In addition, the Executive Committee agreed that all players who are to take part in UEFA EURO 2008™ should take part in a mandatory cardiological screening before the start of the tournament, in the wake of recent incidents which highlight the importance of such a test.

This will be arranged through the national associations’ team doctors. In addition, the competition regulations for UEFA EURO 2008™ were amended, to make it compulsory that one of the six officials sitting on the team bench during matches should be a team doctor.
The Executive Committee also agreed, in principle, to allow the use of giant screens at all matches in the stadiums at UEFA EURO 2008™ in order to show the match action live to the fans. This matter will be further studied and a report will be presented to the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Zagreb, on 30 January, 2008.
Finally, the Executive Committee approved the agenda, the programme and the reports to be presented to the XXXII UEFA Ordinary Congress, on 31 January 2008 in Zagreb, Croatia.
