ESPN Star Sports, Asia’s leading sports broadcaster, will organise a $150,000 futsal tournament in Kuala Lumpar, attracting top teams to Malaysia’s indoor Stadium Negara from January 29 - February 3, 2008.

'The KL World 5’s' will feature 10 national teams from Brazil, Argentina, Holland and England joining the likes of Asian champion Iran, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and hosts Malaysia in action.

“The arrival of this tournament is indeed a huge boost for the game, which is currently enjoying phenomenal growth in the country,” said Datuk Sri Azalina Othman, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Malaysia.

“Futsal has become increasingly popular around the world and Malaysia has been enjoying phenomenal growth evident by the increasing number of futsal centres in Kuala Lumpur and urban areas throughout the country. The KL World 5’s is the perfect event to reinforce that growth for spectators and participants alike.”

The KL World 5’s is the result of collaborative effort between ESPN STAR Sports and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and will be broadcast to over 310 million viewers across Asia on STAR Sports with over 100 hours of coverage, comprising 30 programming hours, including 20 hours of live programming.
