BANGKOK, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's dream of playing in the women's futsal final of the 24th SEA Games here were shattered after they went down 1-3 to Vietnam in the semifinals On Tuesday.

The team will now play the Philippines in the bronze medal play-off on Thursday.

Favourite Thailand will take on Vietnam in the final after thrashing the Philippines 9-2 in the other semifinal.

The Malaysian girls, lacking in experience but highly determined, put up a gallant fight and although they lost, can be proud of their exploits in futsal at this Games.

Team manager Zulkifli Shahari said the team gave a good fight but lost to a better team.

"Our players had been together for only four months but they played well to reach the semifinals. The margin was not big and I am proud of them," he said, adding that several of the players although injured, including Shahilah Mohd Yunus who was admitted to the hospital for a rib injury, took to the field on Tuesday.
