Goals, goals, goals at the 29th National Futsal Championships

8-Jan-08

by J. Simnett

Across 4 Venues of the Nationals held in the Nations Capital - Canberra (ACT) day 1 kicked off with the true emotion of Futsal coming from Players, Officials and Supportors alike.

Goals, goals, goals were the order of the day at the Southern Cross Stadium Tuggrenong with the under 14 boys team from PNG doing very well considering that its was thier first game of Futsal. They only lost buy a short margin and I'm very sure that this Country will be one to look out for in future years competitions within PNG, Australia and OFC.

At the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) the Solomon Islands Men's Futsal team using this event to prepare for the OFC Futsal World Cup qualifiers faired very well against more experianced opposition. They lost in thier 1st match against ACT but picked themselves back up and played some true Futsal to beat the form side of the Nationals the NSW Lighting Mens team 5 - 1.

The Solomon Island under 16 girls are impressing also with wining 1 out of their 3 matches today. The young ladies quick on thier feet where moving the ball around the court quite well and should be proud of their efforts today.

The 15 boys team from the Solomon Islands had the one game today losing 4 - 2 but I felt they where a little bit unlucky with this one. The guys will I'm sure start to shine now day 2 approaches.
At the Netball Centre we saw the foundation of the Sport play at National level. The under 11's - 13's girls and boys. All of the teams and officials at this venue should be very happy overall with the day.

All in all 90 minutes 90 emotions was equal to 720 emotions in 720 minutes of Futsal across 4 venues. Good luck to all teams for day 2
