Argentinean defender joins Chicago Storm

The Chicago Storm has signed defenseman Gabriel Cigliano to join the Major Indoor Soccer League team.

The Argentinean-born player was on Argentina's national futsal team for two years and played seven years with a club team, Ferro Carril Oeste.

"He's a solid indoor player with a really good engine," Storm head coach Steve Morris said.

Chicago was interested in Cigliano, 22, after drafting his older brother, Pablo Cigliano, (35th overall pick) in the 2007 supplemental draft. Gabriel participated in a 12-day trial period toward the end of 2007, and Morris wanted to get him acclimated to making a transition to the MISL.

"The transition from futsal to indoor isn't always easy, though it's similar," Morris said. "There's physicality to our game that is not present in futsal. We wanted to make sure he was comfortable with the rigors of playing indoor soccer."

The Storm (10-5) hosts the first-place Detroit Ignition (11-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sears Centre Arena.
