The Morung Express1st FUTSAL tournament 2008 underway30 January, 2008The 1st Open FUTSAL tournament 2008 (Five a-side soccer) got underway here today under the aegis of GATD Kohima at the Kohima Local Ground. Altogether, 16 teams from Kohima and Peren district are taking part in the tournament.
Inaugurating the tournament, P. Atuo Mezhur, president, Nagaland Football Association (NFA) lauded the organizer for conducting such tournament, saying that it would go a long way in popularizing the game in the state. He also complimented the GATD for conducting coaching camps on several occasions, thereby adding plus point to the standard of football in the state. He also assured that the Nagaland Football Association would try to send some of the ex-players to outside to get necessary training on FUTSAL.
Further, he encouraged other organizations to start organizing such tournaments in their respective district. Earlier, GATD president Dziesesakuo Rutsa delivered welcome while Fr. Philip Magh, Asst Parish Priest SFS, Kohima said invocation prayer. The function was chaired by Khotuo Kuotsu while Dzisekho-ii Kenguriisie presented special numbers. The tournament will go on till February 2.
Tournament results on day One Zealous FC beat Vie club 4-0 while Hilly Kids Club beat Wind Blockers 7-0 during the ongoing Futsal tournament played in Kohima. The first match on January 31 starting 9.00 am will be between Spartan Club, New Market vs Merhiilitsa FC while the matches to be followed in order of serial include Legend Club, Jalukie, Peren district vs JCYO; Ziekiezou SC vs Young Excel’s Club; Unity Club vs Flex-Ki Club; Youth Care vs Rongmei SC and Little Star vs Flying High.
