Brazil Lift KL World 5's Futsal Title In Samba Style

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Brazil, the world's number one futsal nation, emerged champions at the USD$50,000 KL World 5's Futsal championship after thrashing their traditional arch rivals Argentina 4-0 in the final at Stadium Negara, Sunday.

Brazil's Joan Batista Nascimento Carvalho, nicknamed Vaidin, scored the opening goal in the 19th minute after collecting a rebound inside the Argentina penalty area.

After the breather, Lenisio Teixeira Junior outplayed two Argentinean defenders and hammered home the second goal in the 23rd minute beyond the reach of Argentina's goalkeeper Santiago Daniel Elias.

Two minutes later, FIFA World Best Player, Alessandro Rosa Viera or Falcao gave the Samba Boys the third goal while Willian Alves de Morais sealed the Brazilians supremacy over the Argentinians with the fourth goal in the 28th minute.

Brazil's assistant coach, Marcos Sorato said his side had lined up their strongest side with the lethal combination of Alessandro Rosa Viera Falcao and Ari Santos.

"We came here with one mission to win the title that was first won by Argentina in the first tournament in 2003 when we were beaten narrowly 2-3 at Stadium Putra," he said.

Argentina's coach Fernando Larranaga said that most of his players were non-professional who only trained eight hours per week compared to the Brazilians who were professional and trained five hours daily.

Meanwhile, in the Plate Cup, Asian champions Iran narrowly beat Holland 2-1 for the champions in the Plate Cup, which saw the Persians taking home USD$15,000. And, China trounced England 7-3 for the Bowl Cup and the ninth place.

Results:

1. CUP: Brazil 4 Argentina 0
2. PLATE: Iran 2 Holland 1
3. BOWL: China 7 England 3
