Malaysian FutsalFAM scouting for futsal talents at NS carnivalBy
PAUL CHOOKUALA LUMPUR: The National Service Training Department and the Football Association of Malaysia will be on the lookout for young talents in its upcoming Futsal Carnival 2008.
NS Training Department director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said the carnival would involve 830 male trainees nationwide from the Kumpulan 1 Siri 5/ 2008 intake.
"We are eager to see the potential of our trainees in this field in addition to promoting a sense of unity as we are ensuring that the teams are multi-racial.
"Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) officials will be scouting for talents during the carnival in addition to helping us with the technical aspects of running the games.
"Perhaps some bright young talent will represent the national futsal team in future," he said Monday during a press conference to announce the event at the department's centre here.
Unlike last year, the competition this time around would not only take place in the state zones but also at national level.
Champions from respective state zones (nine zones) will compete on Feb 16 and 17 before slugging it out at the finals in Stadium Melawati here on Feb 24.
For female trainees, Abdul Hadi said that they were planning to organise a netball competition in similar fashion.
As for the remaining two intakes of trainees on March 18 and June 17, he said the department would also organise other carnivals.
