1. Futsal as School Assignment?
Advanced Training of Schoolteachers in Bad Blankenburg, September 13th 2002
On September 13 2002, the first advanced Futsal training for elementary school teaching staff took place in Bad Blankenburg. The event was organised by Thüringen’s Institute for Advanced Education for Teaching Staff and Doppelpass e.V.
Fourteen expert advisors of Thüringen elementary schools were educated in theoretical and practical aspects of Futsal. They were especially excited about the composition of the smaller ball and its bouncing characteristics. Particularly the women – who outnumbered the men present – showed more aptitude in playing and controlling the Futsal ball than they did with an ordinary soccer ball. They immediately realised that the ball would also be easier to handle for their students, wherefore many injuries could be prevented. A whole lot of fun and play – that’s Futsal!
After this successful first step, further events of this kind will be held in different regions, with a thorough seminar as soon as next spring.
2. Project at Gymnasium Mellingen, from September 16th to 20th, 2002
Like every year, a Futsal project week was organised at Gymnasium Mellingen. For us, it was very nice to see the initiative of the students, who contacted us so we could help them organise the project. Since the weather was fine, the event could be held on the premises of “Sportpark Vogel”. Many of the students had retained a lot of Futsal’s peculiarities from last year’s event. We played and trained every day from 8am to 2pm. At the end of the week, a small tournament was held. Also, the students made their wish for more Futsal in gym class known.
3. Futsal in Schools and Clubs
Now it is official: In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Football Association of Thüringen, we will hold three-day projects and gym classes at eight schools throughout Thüringen.
Apart from informing a broad audience about the practice of Futsal, it is our goal to integrate Futsal as a sport practiced in schools and employed in the education of the clubs’ youth.
Thüringen is the first federal state of Germany to institute such a programme.
4. Futsal at the University
Futsal is in its very beginnings at universities. The University of Friedrich Schiller in Jena has had a team since April 2002. For the winter semester 2002/2003, Futsal is already an integral part of the university’s sports programme.
From August 24th to 31st, we visited the Futsal Student World Championship in Hungary. There, we’ve made valuable contacts with both the FISU and the ADH (German University Sports Association) regarding the future implementation of Futsal in other universities in Germany. The representatives have pledged us their support. Details will be worked out within the next couple of weeks.
