Julie-Anne AdamskiRedlands under-14 girls' futsal team has celebrated their championship win over The Redbacks with special guest Sydney FC striker Patrick da Silva.
Da Silva presented the Cremorne school students with gold medals for winning the Northern Beaches Futsal Association title at Sydney Academy of Sports at a sports assembly last week.
The under-14 side is the first Redlands team to win a futsal (indoor soccer) competition.
"I was so happy when I arrived at the school and realised the passion Redlands students have for the game," da Silva said.
"I love to promote football and Sydney FC and I was honoured by the students' response to my visit. I will definitely be back."
The girls beat the undefeated Redbacks from Pittwater 3-1 in a penalty shoot out in the grand final.
The score was locked at nil-all at full-time.
"The game came right down to the wire and the girls hung in there and played brilliantly to take out the title," Redlands senior football coach, Gerry Gomez said.
Redlands principal, Dr Peter Lennox said da Silva's visit was a great opportunity for Redlands' talented young players to discuss their passions and dreams with a star of the game
