AFC Futsal Championship 2008 Qualifiers draw

Vietnam to meet the hosts Malaysia in first match


Nhan Dan Online - The draw for the AFC Futsal Championship 2008 Qualifiers was conducted at the AFC House on February 20 with nine teams divided into two groups. Vietnam will face a challenge in the first match on March 26, playing against the hosts Malaysia.

Vietnam will meet Chinese Taipei on March 27 and then Maldives on March 28. The National Futsal Championship was launched on February 3 in which best players will be selected to participate in the AFC Futsal Championship 2008.

The teams will play single round robin format for the four slots in the Finals. Group A includes Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Maldives and Vietnam while Kuwait, Indonesia, Macau, Brunei and Qatar complete Group B.

The qualifiers will be hosted in Malaysia at the Matsushita Sports Complex, Shah Alam, Selangor from March 26 – 30 and the top two teams from each group will join 12 other seeded teams in the Finals to be held in the Thai capital Bangkok from May 11-18, 2008.

Top 4 teams of the finals in Bangkok will represent Asia in the FIFA Futsal world cup in Brazil on October 2008.

The seedings for the qualification and finals format of AFC Futsal Championship 2008 are based on the results from the AFC Futsal Championship 2007.

Seeded teams (Based on AFC rankings): 1. Iran 2. Japan 3. Uzbekistan 4. Kyrgyzstan 5. Lebanon 6. Tajikistan 7. Thailand 8. Australia 9. Korea Rep. 10. Iraq 11. China 12. Turkmenistan.
