A2Z SoccerEircom Futsal League25 February 2008Bohs guaranteed their place in the quarter-finals with two breathtaking displays that saw them bag ten goals without reply.
Given the end-to-end nature of futsal, any clean sheet has to be lauded but to do it twice in succession is certainly eye-catching.
Bohs also had to operate without the mercurial talents of Alan Lynch, who was voted player of the tournament last year and is a key member of the FAI under-21 futsal development squad.
First up for the Gypsies was a clash with Longford Town and the brilliant skills of Ian Byrne were the highlight.
Byrne, another member of the Irish futsal squad, bagged two goals and ripped the Longford defence apart with some of his trademark incisive dribbling.
Young guns Patrick Collins and Ciaran Tracey showed how well they are adapting to the game by also getting on the scoresheet.
Former Hungarian futsal international Martin Mucsanyi completed the rout as the Midlanders struggled to live with the rapid-fire Gypsies.
Next up was a meeting with Drogheda United, who had pushed Bohs to 5-4 in their opening group game last week.
United included former Leeds United and Ireland defender Gary Kelly in their line-up and would have fancied their chances of grabbing a victory.
But they found Bohs in merciless form and manager Darius Kearns admitted afterwards that it had been a stunning display from Bohs.
Philip McDonagh - yet another member of the FAI squad - was the catalyst to the victory with two brilliant goals.
McDonagh also smashed a free-kick of the crossbar to be denied a deserved hat-trick.
Mucsanyi, Brazilian player-coach Junior and Byrne also found the net in a win that secured qualification for the last eight a week early.
Bohs will meet Dundalk (2.30pm) and Longford Town (5.00pm) in their final group fixtures at DCU on Saturday.
