Safa names Futsal team for Libya

Heroics at the recently completed Indoor Football (Futsal) interprovincial tournament have earned Western Cape goalkeeper Jermaine Taylor a trophy for the Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and a call up to the national team that will participate in the African Futsal Championships in Libya next month.

Safa’s three-day Futsal tournament was played at the Tshwane University of Technology in Soshanguve.

Western Cape emerged victors following a tactically contested final against the Free State. Eastern Cape and Northern Cape ended in third and fourth place respectively, with defending champions Gauteng loosing out despite playing with skill and flair that kept the spectators entertained throughout the tournament.

Top goal scorer of the tournament award went to Gift Mashaba from Free State and his team mate Ishmael Motumi walked away with the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

Chairman of Safa’s indoor football committee Mubarak Mohamed says the future of Futsal in the country is bright.

“The ball artistry displayed in this tournament has surely posed a major challenge to the selectors to come up with 12 players to represent the country in Libya. We have confidence in the selectors as former football greats and the presence of our national Under-20 coach Serame Letsoaka and his assistant Mac Chenia inspired the players,” said Mohamed.

The selectors’ team comprised of Velile Yster Ndlovu, Johannes ‘Bricks’ Mudau, Joseph ‘Skesh’ Mkhonza and Amos ‘Heel Extension’ Mkhari.

The selected squad is: Jermaine Taylor (Western Cape), Anthony Jacobs (Eastern Cape), Shokwe Mashaba (Free State), Ishmael Motumi (Free State), Andile Sibizo (Northern Cape), Dlozi Nkosi (Gauteng), Thapelo Mofale (Gauteng), Carlton Stevens (Western Cape), Majidie Taliep (Western Cape), Kerwin Jean Pierre (KZN), Ashley Naidoo (KZN), and Lemmy Masilo (North West).

Five players on standby are:
Andile Cloete (Northern Cape) Thabang Malatsi (Gauteng), Maswanganyi Nomatier (Limpopo), Nkgetheng Mametja (Mpumalanga) and Bongani Ndululu (Eastern Cape).
Head Coach: Quentin Allies (Western Province)
Ass Coach: David Sono ( North West)
