Thanh Nien DailyScuffle mars futsal championship opener, three suspended A fight broke out at the opening National Futsal Championships match between Hanoi and Ha Tay Province on Sunday.
Organizers have imposed suspensions and fines upon players involved in the fracas.
The number three player from Hanoi, Luong Thanh Hung, became incensed when opposition players stood behind him while he was trying to take a corner.
He turned around and hit the offending player in the face.
The referee immediately gave Hung a red card.
Hung’s behavior and Hanoi’s equalizer just beforehand caused angry Ha Tay fans to swamp the area, yelling abuse at the referee and rival players.
A member of the organization board said while Truong Hai Tung, Vice-Chief of VFF’s Department for Human Resources, Women’s Football, Futsal and Amateur Football tried to prevent the fight he was hit in the face.
Tung’s face swelled up but he was unable to pin point who had caused the damage.
Luong Thanh Hung was witnessed by referees, officials, and fans instigating the fight.
His actions have resulted in a four-match ban and a VND1.5 million (US$94) fine.
Two players from Ha Tay, Dao Ngoc Son wearing jersey number 20 and Hoang Anh Trung wearing number 5, have been suspended for three matches and fined VND2.5million ($156) each for their actions.
Organizers cautioned both teams’ coaches for their poor management skills and inability to control their players.
The National Futsal Championships kicked off on Sunday, with 12 teams set to participate in two legs from March 2 – 10 and October 4 – 17.
According to the Vietnam Football Federation, the first leg of competition will be held in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 6 Indoor Stadium and the return leg in the central city of Da Nang.
Among the 12 teams, three are from Hanoi, four from HCMC and the five remaining teams are from Da Nang City, and Ca Mau, Ha Tay, Tien Giang and Tay Ninh provinces.
