The PostZambia picks final futsal national team By
Sydney Mungala Thursday March 13, 2008 ZAMBIA has picked the final 13-member Futsal national team that will camp in Italy.
In an interview yesterday, Zambia futsal national team coordinator Mauro Sanna said the team would leave tomorrow and would be camped in the Italian town of Bari.
Sanna said the team was scheduled to play three friendlies before leaving for Libya where the qualifiers for the Brazil 2008 World Cup would be staged.
"We have dropped Chisamba Lungu, Emmanuel Njobvu and Obby Mwiinga from the travelling team," Sanna said.
He said all logistics were in place and the team had prepared adequately for the championships.
The draws for the African preliminaries of the World Championship for Futsal, Brazil 2008, will take place in Tripoli, Libya on March 15.
Ten countries will be divided into groups of five. Teams that are competing for places are Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia and Zambia.
Two countries will be picked to represent the continent at the Brazil event. The first FIFA Futsal World Championship was held in the Netherlands in 1989.
This will be the first time Zambia will be participating in the Futsal World Cup qualifiers. The qualifiers will kick off on March 21 in Tripoli.
Team: Melvin Kungu, Borniface Banda, Bernard Bwalya, Dennis Makinka, Collins Kaunda, Arnold Chisala, Michael Mutambo, Gift Subukone, Kenneth Chulu, Peter Petulo, Enoch Shanchebo, Jackson Musonda and Yusuf Lumu.
